Abstract

1,138,096. Refracting devices for linear light sources. HOLOPHANE CO. 14 June, 1967 [1 Nov., 1966], No.27500/67. Heading F4R. A refractor member for light controlling in a luminaire having linear light source means, e.g. fluorescent discharge lamps has on the surface remote from the source point-apexed cut-off prisms below the source and linear refractors to the sides of these, the apices of the latter extending transversely to the direction of the light source. In a fitting having two parallel sources, the refractory member is a trough having two parallel bands 25, 26 of conical prisms 41 below the sources and between bands 22, 23, 24 of laterally arranged linear prisms 36. To increase the brightness, small conical prisms of elliptical shape are arranged in the valleys between the prisms 36. The bands 22, 23, 24 stop short of the ends of the member and are replaced by conical prisms 41. The sides of the trough have horizontal prisms on the interior surface and vertical diffusing refractors on the outside surface, the ends being closed by plates of opaque plastic.
