Abstract

686,864. Printing-machines. RAS, M. Oct. 6, 1950 [Oct. 10, 1949], No. 24454/50. Class 100(ii). Rotary machines; inking apparatus.-In a rotary multi-colour offset printing machine comprising a number of printing units arranged side by side in the direction of the run of the paper web and at substantially the same level, each of the units comprising an impression cylinder and, in co-operation therewith, two plate cylinders in association with their respective transfer cylinders, inkers and dampers, the inkers and dampers are arranged below the level of the plate cylinder axes. The web 2, Fig. 1, passes from a roll 1 through units 3, 4, 5 to a folder 6. Each unit comprises an impression cylinder 9, Figs. 1 and 2, plate cylinders 7, transfer cylinders 8, inkers 10 and dampers 11, the latter taking the form of nozzles spraying water on to cylinders 11'. The cylinders and inkers are driven from an input gear box disposed centrally of the unit, the inkers being driven through gear trains accommodated in oil bath recesses in the wall of the unit.
