Abstract
685,760. Spectacle frames. LISSAC, G. May 2, 1949 [May 20, 1948], No. 11684/49. Class 97 (i). [Also in Group XXV] The hinge connection between the side arm 1 and frame 2 of a pair spectacles comprises an elongated mortise formed integrally in the former, and an equally elongated tenon formed integrally in the latter, the arrangement being such that, when the hinge is in its straight or open position, the pivot 5 passing through the combined mortise and tenon is on the longitudinal axis thereof, the tenon occupies substantially all the cavity formed by the mortise, and the two side edges of the tenon lie exactly flush over their full length with the edges of the mortise. The tenon is made by flattening the end of a round wire and its end 6, which is inclined to the axis of the tenon, abuts the correspondingly sloped inner end of the mortise. In a modification the tenon is formed on the side arm. In a further modification two superposed tenons and mortises are provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91., describes a hinge connection between two parts of a side member, each part being mortised to receive one end of an interconnecting, tenon-like member. Alternatively, the two parts are tenoned and the interconnecting member has mortised ends. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
