Abstract

236,271. Wingate, G. H. April 1, 1924. Barrel hinges.- Spectacle frames, more especially of tortoise-shell or like, are provided with hinges constructed so that the adjacent surfaces of the sides b and frame a are approximately tangential to the same side of the butt portions instead of the opposite sides, thus enabling the sides to fold down close to the frames. The plate d pinned to the frame a has a slightly raised portion d<2> on which are secured the two side butts of the hinge, the middle butt being formed on the plate attached to the side. This plate terminates in a vertical portion e<3> covering the end of the side b, and is formed with a quadrant e<2> covering the butts. In the modification shown in Fig. 3 each outer butt of the hinge is secured to a small plate at the end of the frame, secured by pins to the frame a, and the other hinge flap overhangs the end of the spectacle side to which it is secured by flaps h as shown.
