Abstract

566,321. Spectacles. BOLLE, L., and NATIONALE SOC. ANON. June 24, 1942, No. 8673. [Class 97 (i)] In a spectacle frame in which the sides have straight portions 2 with plane inner faces, and are so hinged to the upper part of the front 1 that when opened the centre lines of these portions make an acute angle with the plane of the front, the pivotal axis 5 of each hinge is located in planes parallel to the front and to the inner face of the portion 2 of the side, and is inclined relatively to the plane of symmetry c of the frame and to a plane b perpendicular to the straight portion of the side. As shown, the angle i of each hinge axis to the vertical is substantially equal to the forward inclination i<1> of the front relatively to the plane b<1>. The hinges may be positioned so that, when folded, the portions 2 of the sides either overlap or lie side by side as in Fig. 6. In either case the hinge of the side first folded may be partly embedded in the frame, the wings of the other being spaced to enable the second side to fold over the first. The ordinary hinges shown may be replaced by hinges having their wings at an angle to the pivotal axis so as to lie horizontally on the front and side members of the frame. One hinge part may be formed by shaping the end of a metallic reinforcing member extending within the side member.
