[Class 65 (i).] An operating spring for doors and the like, of the kind comprising a length of spring strip secured at its ends to the door and door frame so that it bends and moves bodily in a plane substantially at right angles to the pivotal axis of the door, has the securing means of at least one end angularly adjustable to regulate the effect of the spring. The spring may be of various forms, to suit the action required, and may be reinforced along part of its length by a second strip secured to it, producing a laminated construction. For doors opening both ways a spring may be provided on each side of the door, or a spring of spiral form may be used. In the form shown the spring strip 13, with reinforcing strip 19, is fixed at one end to an upwardly-projecting peg fitting in a socket 16 on a bracket on the door frame and at the other end to a downwardly-projecting peg 21 engaging a similar socket on the door ; both pegs are rotatable in their sockets, and can be locked in any position by set screws, which may engage recesses in the pegs. In a modification, the pegs may be screw-threaded and secured by nuts to the fixing brackets, in the required positions. In a further modification, a setscrew carried by one of the pegs may move in a circumferential slot in the bracket, so that the end of the spring is allowed some angular motion. In the case of a spiral spring, the inner end of the spring may be mounted freely on a vertical pin carried by one of the brackets. The peg 21 at the door end of the spring may be arranged to engage a resiliently mounted plunger 27 on the door frame to buffer the closing of the door ; the bracket carrying the plunger may also have a pair of spring arms, as shown, to embrace the peg and prevent rattling.
