683,415. Hinges. MANDER, I. R. Oct. 16,1950 [March 24, 1950], No. 7461/50. Class 65 (ii) In a hinge for a folding rule of the kind incorporating a spring to produce pressure between the hinge parts, the hinge pin is constituted as screw clamping-means for enabling said pressure to be adjusted. Hinge leaves 10, embedded in the blades 8, 9 of the rule, end in contiguous ears 11 traversed by a screw-threaded hinge pin 12 which extends free in a collar 13 abutting one outside ear and screws into a collar 14 abutting the other outside ear, a coil spring 16 encircling the central part of the hinge pin and abutting the inner ears. In a modification the leaves are of channel or box cross section to receive the ends of the respective blades. In a further modification one blade is provided with a central ear internally screw-threaded right and left hand to receive a pair of opposed screws which extend freely through outer ears provided on the other blade, a coil spring being interposed between each outer ear and the central ear.
