Abstract

683,157. Catches. BRIGGS MOTOR BODIES, Ltd., and BUTLER, R. T. April 25, 1951 [May 15, 1950], No. 12123/50. Class 44 A catch e.g. for securing the closure of the engine or luggage compartment of a motor vehicle comprises a support 1 to which is pivoted a spring loaded plate 2 having a latch portion 5 and a hook portion 8, a keeper 21 secured to the closure having a pin 20 adapted to enter through a slot 19 when the closure is shut to engage a cam face 6 of the plate, turning the plate so as to engage under the latch portion 5 securing the closure in the fully shut position. A remote control wire 13 operated e.g. from inside the vehicle turns the plate against its spring 9 to release the pin which is lifted by a spring 15 (loaded as the closure is shut) so as to engage in the hook portion 8 of the plate as shown in Fig. 3 holding the closure in a partly open position. A small downward movement of the closure releases the plate to return to the position of Fig. 1 and allows the pin to be lifted out of the slot.
