Abstract
681,772. Rollers. WOOD NEWSPAPER MACHINERY CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1950. [June 13, 1950] No. 23779/50. Class 42 (ii). [Also in Group XVI] A driving wheel W forming part of a mechanism (see Group XVI) for accelerating a fresh web roll prior to an operation for splicing the web of the fresh roll to that of an expiring roll, is characterized in that the wheel has a web roll surface-engaging tread T with transverse corrugations thereon. The corrugations may be formed by ribs 78 and valleys 79 in the periphery of a detachable drum 74 over which the tread T comprising compressible and preferably resilient material, such as natural or synthetic rubber, is fitted and clamped by bars 80 secured to the rim 74 by bolts 81. A shaft 50 carrying the wheel W is driven by an electric motor.
