[Also in Division F2] In Figs. 1, 2, a driving roller for a conveyer belt or the like comprises a steel drum 2 on a shaft 4, the surface of the drum being covered by a layer 8 of natural or synthetic rubber. Longitudinal incisions 10 and circumferential incisions 12 are made in the rubber. In a modification, Fig. 3, a rubber cylinder 14 is mounted directly on the shaft 4. The incisions may be made by a tool while the roller is held in a lathe or supported on cradles. P.V.C. and other high polymers are also specified as resilient material for the roller.
