681,509. Securing sprockets to free-wheels. ROBSON, W. Oct. 25, 1950, No. 26007/50. Class 80 (ii). A free-wheel of the ball bearing latch or pawl type, especially for bicycles and the like, has six evenly spaced holes extending axially through its outer face. Two sprockets having different numbers of offset teeth are each pierced by six holes corresponding to the holes in the free-wheel. The sprockets are clamped one on each side of the free-wheel by rivets or other fastening devices. A bottombracket axle, not shown, is provided for insertion through the bore B of the inner race of the free-wheel. The axle has a fixed centre piece, and is provided with detachable cones and washers so that it can be adjusted for length to fit any machine. The axle and free-wheel assembly are screwed to a threaded crank arm. The invention is used in combination with a single chain and a rear hub axle carrying two, three or more fixed sprockets.
