In mechanism wherein a shaft d is driven. alternately forwardly and reversely, forward rotation is transmitted from a constantly-rotating shaft a by engagement of a single-jaw clutch b, a reversible electric motor g being de-energised and driven idly from the shaft d through gears e, f during this period. At the end of the forward movement, clutch b is disengaged and motor g is energised to drive shaft d reversely. At the end of the reverse movement, motor g is reversed to drive shaft d forwardly, and on approximate synchronisation of shafts d, a the clutch b is re-engaged and the motor de-energised.
