Abstract
681,283. Electric follow-up systems. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Feb. 2, 1951 [Feb. 3, 1950], No. 2843/50. Class 40 (i) [Also in Group XXXIX] In a dynamo-electric amplifier comprising an alternator, feedback is provided from the alternator output to its field winding 3, through a rectifier network 6 arranged to give positive feedback irrespective of the polarity of the D.C. signal applied at the terminals 2. The polarity of the output from the network 6 is dependent on the phase of the alternator output relative to the phase of a fixed supply, which may be generated by a second alternator on the same shaft. Fig. 2 shows such an amplifier in a correspondence control system in which the field winding 17 of a two-phase motor 20 is energized by the output from the amplifier 15 in accordance with the potential generated across brushes 12 and 13 on a pair of potentiometers arranged as a Wheatstone net. The brush 13 is driven directly from the motor and the potential across the brushes is dependent on their relative positions.
