Abstract

712,368. Control of A.C. motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. May 8, 1953 [May 9. 1952], No. 11784/52. Class 38(3) [Also in Group XXXV] The armature current of a series type A.C. commutator motor is maintained constant by automatically varying an induction regulator to buck or boost the supply. The motor 14 is one traction motor of an electrically propelled vehicle energized from an overhead line 12 via transformer 10, circuit breaker 16, 17 and the induction regulator 18, the rotor of which is rotatable by a D.C. motor 21 having its armature energized by an amplifying exciter 23. The exciter 23 has three field windings; the first 23a, is energized by an adjustable D.C. reference voltage tapped off a potentiometer 24; the second, 23b, is energized by the rectified output of a current transformer 26 to effect the constant current control; and.the third, 23c, is energized by the rectified voltage appearing across a reactor 29 energized by opposed tachometer alternators driven by the motor 14 and by a second traction motor 15. This winding reduces the motor current in the event of wheel slip. Specifications 557,112, [Group XL], and 579,570, [Group XXXV], are referred to.
