Abstract

681,069. Variable-speed gearing. BRUNING CO., Inc., C. March 13, 1951, No. 6061/51. Class 80 (ii). A variable-speed gear comprises parallel primary and secondary shafts, a driven shaft, variable-speed gearing between the primary, secondary and driven shafts, oppositely-ta. pered cone pulleys on said primary and secondary shafts, a driving pulley having an axis parallel to said primary and secondary shafts, a belt trained around both said cone pulleys and said driving pulley, and means for adjusting the belt axially of said cone pulleys to simultaneously increase the speed of one cone pulley and decrease the speed of the other cone pulley to vary the speed of the driven shaft. As shown in Fig. 1, a belt 16 is trained around the driving pulley 15 of an electric motor 10 and cone pulleys 17, 19 on the primary and secondary shafts 18, 21 of a differential gear contained together with an output shaft 37, in a case 29. By means of a linkage 57, 62, 63, the motor 10 may be slid along a supporting shaft 13 against a spring 59 to select any desired speed of the output shaft 37 between the maximum in either direction. The primary, secondary and driven shafts are interconnected by a differential gear, Fig. 3, the shaft 18 driving, through a worm 30 and wheel 32, the carrier 40 of bevel planets 43 while the shaft 21 drives, through a worm 31 and wheel 54, a side wheel 45, the other side wheel 44 being keyed to the driven shaft 37.
