Abstract

1,085,412. Epicyclic gear. PANDJIRIS WELDMENT CO. April 21, 1966, No. 17451/66. Heading F2D. A variable-speed transmission comprises a bevel epicyclic gear 10, the speed of the output shaft 15 connected to a crown wheel 20 being controlled by a variable speed shaft 31 driving the planet spider 36 and a shaft 22 connected to the other crown wheel 27 and driven at constant speed. Shafts 22, 31 are respectively driven by pulleys 25, 34 from a motor 55 through a constant speed belt drive consisting of belts 61, 62 and an idler pulley 60, and a variable speed drive consisting of an expanding pulley 55 connected to pulley 34 by belt 63. The motor 55 is mounted on a carrier 50 pivotable about the axis of idler pulley 60 by a manually rotatable screwed shaft 82, this arrangement ensuring that movement of the motor to vary the ratio of the expanding pulley drive 63 has no effect on the belt drive 61, 62. Instead of manual adjustment of the screw shaft 82, this may be effected automatically by a tachometer generator (86) and differential amplifier (92) controlling a motor (93) driving the shaft, Fig. 5 (not shown).
