Abstract
680,854. Seats; furniture joints; resilient mountings. TAN-SAD CHAIR CO. (1931), Ltd. July 18, 1951 [July 20, 1950]. Classes 52(i) and 52(ii) In'a back rest for a chair &c. of the kind comprising a back rest involving a crossstrip frictionally jointed to the back rest uprights in such a manner that it automatically adjusts itself to the user's back there are provided at the swivel points rubber plugs &c. to act as a cushion and as control or provide for its resilient movement. The back rest b has a cross-strip b<SP>1</SP> which at each end is associated with a rubber plug c to which the upright a is connected. The upper end of the upright a is of semicircular formation and enters a slot c<SP>1</SP> of the plug c. A pin d passes through the plug and an aperture a<SP>2</SP> in the upright and engages the cross-strip b', the pin being of such a length as to cause the plug c to grip the end of the upright. The head d<SP>1</SP> of the pin d is seated in a recess c<SP>3</SP> and the aperture a<SP>2</SP> is provided with bevelled edges a<SP>3</SP> adapted, on swivelling of the back rest, to contact the pin d and so limit the swivelling.
