Abstract

1,033,679. Reclining chairs. GENERAL STEEL PRODUCTS, Inc. April 30, 1963, No. 16897/63. Heading A4J. In a reclining chair, which is adapted to move between three positions, a normal rest position in which the leg rest is retracted upwardly beneath the seat, an intermediate balanced position, and a fully reclined position, a seat link 24 is connected to fixed pivots 24 and 18 on a base link 10 by links 34, 30 and 20, and leg rest link 50 is connected to fixed point 38 on base link 10 by links 48 and 40. The normal rest position, Fig. 1 (not shown), is established by the engagement between an offset portion 64 on seat link 24 with a projection 66 of base link 10. A stop pin 68 on base link 10 is engaged by the lower end of control link 40 when the chair is in its fully reclined position, Fig. 4 (not shown). The control link 40 is pivoted intermediate its ends to fixed pivot 38 and its ends are pivoted to links 44 and 48 connected to the seat link 24 and the leg rest link 50, respectively. The intermediate balanced position, Fig. 3, is achieved by applying opposing forces upon the chair seat and the leg rest which are transmitted to opposite ends of the control link 40. The leg rest may be divided into two parts AL and ML, Fig. 7 (not shown), so that in the retracted position the part AL forms a downward continuation of the front surface of the seat.
