680,379. Injection - moulding machines. SAUTER, H., HAHN, W., (trading as HAHN & KOLB). Aug. 8, 1950 [Oct. 1, 1948], No. 19696/50. Class 87 (ii). [Also in Groups XXII and XXVI] An injection moulding or like machine having two double acting pistons, one to move the injection plunger and the other the movable die part, is characterised in that the pressure spaces on one side of the two pistons are interconnected and connected to the pressure space of an operating piston and the pressure spaces on the other side are interconnected and connected to a pressure accumulator. The pressure areas in the two pistons are such that the die closes before injection and does not open until the plunger has returned. In the machine shown a friction wheel 6 drives a flywheel 5 with a screwed shaft 4 which is thus moved down through a fixed nut 9. When a head 7 engages a stop 8 of a piston 3 this also moves down and applies pressure to liquid in the spaces 15, 25. Annular spaces 10, 14 are under liquid pressure from an accumulator 24. Owing to the relative active areas of the pistons 2, 13, the former is moved first to close the die 21, 22 and then the plunger 16 moves to inject the material in the container 17 into the die. A limit switch may be used to cut off the motor driving the friction wheel 6 when this action has been completed. 18 is a heater for plastic material.
