Recording-apparatus permitting a double record to be made by means of a single stylus 2 movable in opposite directions and in paths limited by stops 10, 11 and comprising a holder 3 shaped as a balance-beam, one end of which carries the stylus 2 and the other end of which is resiliently connected with a frame of the apparatus is characterised in that the resilient connection is effected by means of a flat spring 4, one end of which is fixed to the frame and the other end of which is fixed to the holder 3 near a bearing 12 by which it is mounted on the frame, so that the end of the holder 3 that projects beyond its point of connection with the spring 4 is adjacent to the spring, the arrangement being such that the holder 3 in moving in one direction rocks about the point of connection of the spring 4 with the frame as a one-armed lever and in moving in the other direction rocks about the bearing 12 as a twoarmed lever. A pillar o supports a recording drum 1 and two side plates 5 joined by crosspieces 6, 7, 8, 9 form a frame supporting the stylus mechanism. The light, rigid carrier 3 has a vertical arm 15 disposed between two arms 22, 23 carried by arms 20, 21 fixed to armatures 18, 19 of two actuating electromagnets 16, 17 and the arms 20, 21 are linked to the frame by springs 24, 25 so that when the electromagnet 16 is energized the arm 22 pushes the arm 15 to the left so that the carrier 3 pivots about the point where the spring 4 is clamped to the cross-piece 6 until stopped by the stop 10, the final movement being damped by the spring 25 after the arm 15 engages the arm 23. When the electromagnet 17 is energized, the arm 23 pushes the arm 15 to the right and the carrier 3 pivots about the bearing 12 until stopped by the stop 11, the final movement being damped by the spring 24 after the arm 15 engages the arm 22, meanwhile the carrier 3 and spring 4 separate, the latter bending in an arc to which the carrier is a tangent at the point 14 of connection.
