Abstract
679,714. Axial-flow compressors and turbines. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. July 20, 1950 [April 21, 1949], No. 10670/49. Class 110(iii) A blade is attached to a rotor disc or drum by a pivot pin which has its axis substantially parallel to the plane containing the axes about which the blade crosssections have their minimum moment of inertia, or to the mean plane if these axes are not contained in a single plane. Each blade 23, Fig. 6. has two lugs 27 which are connected by a pin 28 to four ribs 29 on the rotor rim 22. For convenience o f manufacture the lugs and ribs preferably depart from true helical form, the lugs having plane surfaces and the ribs being formed by cutting straight slots in the rim 22 by means of a milling cutter. Cuts a 1 , and b 1 , Fig. 5, spaced apart by a distance equal to the spacing of the lugs 27 of a blade, are made from opposite edges of the rim 22, each cut ending short of the opposite edge. Further cuts a 2 , a 3 ... an and b2 ... b n-1 , bn are made, so that each cut (e.g., a 3 ) runs into an opposite cut (e.g. b 1 ), but with a slight lateral displacement resulting in each end portion 29a of a rib 29 being slightly thicker than the middle portion 29b. Specification 621,315 is referred to.
