Abstract
678,838. Objectives. WARMISHAM, A., and TAYLOR, TAYLOR & HOBSON, Ltd. April 10, 1951 [April 19, 1950], No. 9650/50. Class 97 (i). A corrected optical objective comprises four doublet components of which the two inner components are divergent menisci concave towards a diaphragm between them whilst the two outer components are convergent, the four internal contact surfaces all being collective and concave towards the diaphragm. In the form shown, the convergent outer elements 3, 6 of the two inner components are made of materials having substantially the same mean refractive index greater than 1.63 and the divergent inner elements 4, 5 of such components are made of materials having substantially the same mean refractive index which is greater than 1.65 and exceeds that of the convergent elements by less than 0.045. The refractive index of the front element 7 of the rear outer component exceeds that of the rear element 8 of said component by 0.05 to 0.10 and also exceeds by between 0.03 and 0.10 that of the rear element 2 of the front outer component which element has a refractive index greater than that of the front element 1 of the front outer component by between 0.02 and 0.10. The radius of curvature R<SP>5</SP> lies between 0.6 and 1 times the focal length F of the objective and the radius R<SP>8</SP> lies between 0.5F and F. Radius R<SP>2</SP> lies between 0.35F and 0.55F and the radius R<SP>3</SP> is greater than 2.5F. The radius R11 is between 0.4F and 0.7F. Radius R<SP>7</SP> is between 0.29F and 0.37F and exceeds radius R<SP>6</SP>, which radius lies between 0.20F and 0.32F.
