Abstract
658,349. Optical objectives. COOK, G.H., and TAYLOR, TAYLOR & HOBSON, Ltd. April 4, 1949, Nos. 9110/49 and 6083/50. [Class 97 (i)] In an optical objective which comprises two divergent meniscus inner components 2, 3 having their air-exposed surfaces concave towards a diaphragm between them and located between two convergent outer components 1, 4, each of the four components is in the form of a doublet having a divergent inner element and a convergent outer element and the mean refractive index of the material of the divergent element in each inner component exceeds that of the material of the associated convergent element by between 0.03 and 0.12 and the mean refractive index of the material of the convergent element in each outer component exceeds that of the associated divergent element by between 0.05 and 0.20. Optical data are given for two examples of the lens shown and for one example in which the internal contact surface of each negative doublet is concave towards the diaphragm. The first Provisional Specification includes data for another example of the lens shown.
