Abstract

Anisotropic magnets are formed by subjecting to the action of a magnetic field whilst cooling through the Curie point and then to ageing an alloy or sintered mass of the following composition: Ni 10-30 per cent, A1 6-11 per cent, Co 12-30 per cent, Cu 0.5-8 per cent, Ta and Nb 0.5-4.5 per cent, Fe and impurities, the remainder. The ratio of the proportions of Ta and Nb is maintained between 3 to 1 and 1 to 3. The use of the combination 1.5 per cent Nb and 1.5 per cent Ta is excluded from the scope of the invention. One or more of the elements Ag, Ti and V may be present up to 5 per cent in total. One or more of Si, S, W and Zr may be present up to 1 per cent in total. The impurities C, P, Cr, Mn and Mo should not exceed 1 per cent in total. Specifications 496,774, 634,686, 634,700 and 640,886 are referred to.
