Abstract
676,407. Cable joints. BELLING & LEE, Ltd. Nov. 15,1950, No. 27970/50. Class 38 (i). A joint between coaxial cables 10, 15 of different characteristic impedances is made by stripping the cable 10 to expose the inner and outer conductors 12, 13, and by exposing the outer conductor 18 of the cable 15, sliding it away from the cable end and splitting the concentric insulating tube 17 to bare the inner conductor 16. The conductors 12, 16 are joined together and the split tube 17 is shortened to accommodate the joint and replaced. The conductor 18 is then slid back over it and conductor 13, the conductors being secured by wire or a metal clip 25 bound thereon by insulating tape 28. Preferably, the outer cover 19 of the cable 15 is slit near its end and pulled out so that the cable conductors pass through the slit, and after the joint is made the other end of conductor 10 is drawn through the slit, Fig. 5, which is then sealed by placing a plastic sleeve 2 over the joint and cementing its ends 30 to the cables.
