Abstract
676,118. Rubber buffers. DONALD, P. G., and ASSOCIATED BUILDERS' MERCHANTS, Ltd. Dec. 28, 1950 [Jan. 6, 1950], No. 449/50. Class 108(iii) [Also in Group XXV] In a resilient buffer comprising a head 1 and a threaded shank 2 adapted to be screwed into a threaded hole in a support 7, the underside of the head is formed with at least one projection adapted to engage in a recess of the same section formed in the support when the shank is screwed fully home, the depth of the projection and the resiliency of the buffer being such that it is substantially impossible to remove the latter only by unscrewing the shank. As shown, the head, which is of substantially elliptical shape, has two projections 4, 5 of square cross-section. A tool 11, 12, 13 is provided for distorting the head while the shank is screwed into the support. In a modification the bottoms of the projections and of the recesses slope upwardly in the direction of travel when the shank is being screwed inwardly, the arrangement being such that the engagement of these slopes then serves to distort the head, while the engagement of each projection with an end wall of each recess serves to prevent the shank from being unscrewed.
