Abstract
675,453. Bed-settees. OUTEWAITE, W. C. H. Oct. 10, 1950. [April 15, 1950] No. 24744/50. Class 52 (ii). A bed-settee or chair bed comprises an articulated frame one part of which is adapted to fold on another part to form the seat of the settee, &c. between two fixed uprights or sides and to be unfolded to raise and advance the part positioned between the supports and form with the first part a horizontal bed or portion thereof. As shown the articulated frame comprises three parts 13, 2, 24 respectively supporting mattresses or cushions 6, 7, 8 the part 24 forming, in the settee or folded portion the back of the settee. The fixed support comprises two rigid sides 1 forming arm rests which are interconnected by transverse members 3, 4. Secured to each side 1 is a link 9 having pivoted thereto further links 11, 17, 18, to support the parts 13, 2 which latter are hinged together as shown at 14, 15, 16. The link 18 is provided with an extension between the end of which and a bracket on the part 24 is pivoted a link 23, the bracket being also pivoted at 25 to the side 1. A folding leg 26 at each side of part 13 is provided. In folding to settee position the part 13 folds on to part 2 which moves rearwardly in an inclined position while part 24 is raised to form the back rest.
