Abstract
675,274. Packaging. NICOLLE, C. Dec. 29, 1948. No. 33,382/48. Class 94 (i). A flowable substance is packaged between two recessed sheets, which are secured together along opposed flat portions to form a number of cells for the reception of the substance, each sheet being formed with grooves which cooperate to form a filling orifice and a distributing channel network leading from the orifice to the cells. In one form, Fig. 1, the cells 2 communicate through branch channels 3 with a main supply channel 3<SP>1</SP> terminating at one end in a filling aperture 4, adapted to receive a tapered filling nozzle 5, and at the other end in an air vent 3<SP>11</SP>. The package may be heated during the filling operation if the substance solidifies at normal temperatures. After filling, the channels 3 are sealed, e.g. by a crimping operation, and the portion containing the channel 3<SP>1</SP> is removed by cutting along the line a-b. Alternatively, the channels may be sealed after the removal of the channel 3<SP>1</SP> by dipping the package in a sealing composition. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the channel 3<SP>1</SP> communicates directly with the wider ends of the cells and in a further modification, Fig. 6 (not shown) the package is filled by gravity through a central orifice. In a second form, Fig. 7, the first cell 2<SP>1</SP> is in series with three cells, 2<SP>11</SP>, 2<SP>111</SP> arranged in parallel, and in a third form, Fig. 10 (not shown), the cells are arranged on opposite sides of a central filling channel. Notches 10 may be provided to facilitate the opening of the package by tearing.
