Abstract
674,833. Electric cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 8, 1948 [Oct. 13, 1947], No. 27404/47. Class 36. [Also in Group VIII] In the manufacture of cable, conducting material, e.g. silver, copper, is interleaved between layers (or series of superposed layers) of mouldable material, e.g. resin-impregnated paper or woven glass fabric, on one or more of which the conductor is printed or otherwise deposited in particulate form (by methods which may include those described in Specifications 569,388 and 646,921, [both in Group II],) and the assembly is moulded under heat and pressure into a unitary whole. If the mouldable material is resin-impregnated, the assembly may be passed between the electrodes of a high-frequency heating equipment to effect partial polymerization of the resin and then between heated rollers. As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, two sheets F may each be prepared with one or more conducting strips and brought together with the strips in contact, and the cable may be split as in the plane H, Fig. 2, to produce single core cables. The cable shown in Fig. 5 may be folded and consolidated to the form shown in Fig. 6, or two or more single-core cables may be united to produce a cable of similar form. The cables may have fixing slots B, Fig. 4. Fig. 3 shows an insulating sheet covered or partially covered on one surface with a metallic deposit wound into a tight spiral which is consolidated.
