Abstract
674,351. Heating vehicles. MORRIS MOTORS, Ltd. Jan. 2, 1951 [Jan. 31, 1950], No. 2457/50. Classes 64(ii) and 64(iii). Relates to heating systems for motor vehicles of the kind in which air is heated in an auxiliary radiator which receives, by means of an engine-driven rotary pump, hot liquid from the engine cooling system. According to the invention, a two-part pump is employed, one part (Fig. 1) delivering liquid to the cylinder head or jacket 13 from the bottom of the main radiator, and the other part 2 circulating hot liquid from the cylinder head through the auxiliary radiator and back to the cylinder head. In the form shown, a twopart pump of the impeller type has a stator 9 and a single rotor with two sets of vanes 1, 2. The vanes 1 draw liquid from the tank bottom through pipes 5, 6 into a chamber 10 for delivery to the cylinder head 13 through ports 8 and passages 11, 12, Fig. 2. The vanes 2 draw hot liquid from the cylinder head through a passage 16 to a chamber 15 and deliver to the auxiliary radiator through pipe 17, twoway valve 21 and pipe 18 ; this liquid returning to the cylinder head. The valve 21, which may be remotely controlled, serves to cut off the supply to the auxiliary radiator and byepass the liquid to the cylinder head.
