Abstract

1,072,213. Dental handpieces. A. KALTENBACH and E. HOFFMEISTER, March 5, 1965 [March 23, 1964], No. 9579/65. Heading A5R. A dental handpiece is provided with a spray device which is supplied with fluid at a chosen temperature, the fluid being obtained by mixing in a chamber 8 the air or water used to cool the electric motor of the handpiece and a second fluid obtained through a conduit 12. As shown in a part of the handpiece housing the electric motor, air from a supply 21 is passed through a cooling jacket 5 around the motor and being thus warmed enters the chamber 8 via a one-way valve 10. The second fluid enters the chamber through an opening controlled by a screw-valve 13. By adjusting the valve 13, the temperature of the spray can be adjusted to that of the body. The spray can be stopped by moving the valve 13 and by opening a valve 26, when the warm air from the cooling jacket escapes to atmosphere. In an alternative handpiece, Figure 2 (not shown), water is used to cool the electric motor and, to stop the spray, the water may be ducted away from the cooling jacket and the valve 10 via a conduit 22 to which is connected a valve-controlled outlet pipe.
