Abstract
902,220. Dental handpieces. ZIEMENSREINGER-WERKE A.G. May 20, 1960 [May 23, 1959], No. 17899/60. Class 81 (2). In a high-speed dental handpiece in which part of the air discharged from a turbine 8, 9 issues through a ball bearing 10 towards the tool 5, a cap 12 contains an annular water duct 20, coaxial with the tool shank and communicating with a supply conduit 18, from which two or more ports 21 lead. The ports are preferably uniformly disposed around the edge of the duct 20 and may vary in size and angular disposition relative to the turbine shaft 8. Air issuing from the bearing 10 passes through an annular chamber 16 to a duct 17 or through ports 22 communicating with the duct 20 to cause a spray to issue from the ports 21. In another embodiment (not shown), ports lead from the water duct 20 to the air duct 17.
