Abstract
729,683. Grinding tools. GLACERIES DE LA SAMBRE SOC. ANON. Feb. 25, 1953 [March 20, 1952], No. 5331/53. Class 60. A grinding tool, particularly for grinding the faces of a glass sheet, has a central cavity 6, Fig. 2, in the form of a dished portion provided with blades 8 constituting a centrifugal impeller and fluid-born abrasive distributer, the central and deepest part of the cavity being fed with abrasive from a duct. The body of the tool is provided with radial grooves 11 and circular grooves 10, the outer faces of the latter having surfaces of constant or variable inclination to promote the flow of abrasive to the operative face of the tool. The impeller may be formed as a separate element 14, Fig. 4, mounted on a sleeve 16 driven through gearing at a higher speed than the tool. A second tool provided with an impeller 14<SP>1</SP> is provided to operate simultaneously on the opposite side of a glass sheet to the first tool. The duct 4 for the latter is fitted with a flange 7 and fed by a pump (not shown) while the duct 4<SP>1</SP> for the second tool is fed by gravity and provided with peripheral holes 18 from which the abrasive falls on to a conical base 15<SP>1</SP> fast with the impeller. The flange 7 and base 15<SP>1</SP> are also provided when the impellers are integral with the tools. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which part of the abrasive is fed through radial ducts 22, 22<SP>1</SP> to slots 23, 23<SP>1</SP> at the base of the grooves 10, the remainder of the abrasive being distributed centrally by the blades 8<SP>1</SP> and nozzles 24. A triple feed arrangement, in which the abrasive is divided into three parts, may also be employed.
