Abstract

1356776 Dental handpiece KALTENBACH & VOIGT 6 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56409/72 Heading A5R A dental handpiece having an air-driven motor with associated air supply and air exhaust lines is provided with a circular disc 5 having one or more apertures 6 for varying the speed of the motor, the disc having an extension 7 extending through the handpiece casing 4 in a slot 8 extending over part of the circumference thereof whereby the disc can be rotated to bring the aperture(s) 6 into alignment with the air-supply line 3 or the airexhaust line. The extension 7 engages a recess 10 in the wall of an operating ring 9 on the casing 4, the ring being rotatable and the recess holding the extension immovable in relation thereto. Air-exhaust holes 17 are provided in the casing and communicate with atmosphere through openings 15 in the ring 9 which have damping layers 16 e.g. of felt. A coolant line 18 extends through the handpiece, an arcuate slot being provided in disc 5 to accommodate it. In a modification, the ring 9 is axially displaceable on the casing and the extension 7 engages a recess which is formed as part of a screw-thread.
