Abstract
569,505. Vacuum work holders. SCHMID, E. May 26, 1943, No. 8401. Convention date, June 26, 1942. [Class 60] A vacuum work-holder for hollow cylindrical work-pieces, for example, thin sleeve valves 7 of internal-combustion engines comprises, for grinding &c. the work externally, a hollow muff 8, on which the sleeve is placed, having radial perforations 15 communicating with the cavity 14. The cavity is in communication, through a grooved ring 17, with a suction conduit 16, and the muff runs on centres 11, 12 and is driven at 13. For the internal treatment of the sleeve 7, the muff has an outer annular suction cavity, the inner wall of which has therein radial perforations so as to hold the sleeve, placed within the muff, by suction applied to its external surface. The perforations are spaced to avoid openings in the work-pieces; they may be distributed over the surface of the muff and may be tapped so that desired perforations may be closed by screws. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a work-holder for round washers, the holder being in the form of a hollow flat-topped rotatable table having in the flat face perforations communicating with the cavity of the table, from which air is extracted by a conduit. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
