Abstract

673,384. Nonconducting coverings for heat. CLIPSON, S. Dec. 18, 1950 [Jan. 3, 1950], No. 128/50. Class 64(ii) A heat insulating covering particularly for a pipe or tube has a carrier, made of flexible sheet material, e.g. paper, in the form of attached segmental pockets 1, Fig. 1, and moulded bars 2, Fig. 4, which each fit into a pocket and are preformed so that together they form a continuous covering when the carrier is wrapped, e.g. around a pipe P. The outer walls 1A of the pockets 1 form the. outer cylindrical surface of the thick-walled tube of insulation thus formed. Annular air spaces may be formed at the pipe surface by insulating rings 4 fitted at intervals along the pipe to space the carrier therefrom and to accommodate protuberances. The insulation carrier with its pockets 1 may be folded flat or rolled up when not in use. Securing of the insulation is by tied encircling material or clips. The Provisional Specification describes also a carrier made of plastic sheeting or asbestos cloth and the use of kapok or granular cork loose in the pockets.
