Abstract
830,708. Heat insulating pipes. HACKETHAL DRAHT-UND KABEL-WERKE A.G. Oct. 29, 1957, No. 33779/57. Class 99(2). Heat insulation for a pipe 1 is provided by an unbroken synthetic plastic sheath 2 of low thermal conductivity formed with a plurality of spaces 4 filled with air or other gas. The sheath 2 is spaced from the pipe by trapezoidal projections 3 to minimize heat conduction; alternatively the projections may have a triangular cross-section, Fig. 2 (not shown). The material of the sheath may be polyvinyl chloride with a high K-value and may incorporate filling materials to reduce thermal conductivity and increase heat stability. The sheath may be produced by the screwinjection process, the mouth of the press being formed so as to produce a continuous sheath for a pipe passed through it ; alternatively, the sheaths may be manufactured separately and pushed over the pipes or, horizontally slit so that the slit may be welded or stuck after the sheath is placed in position. Coverings for bends or branch pipes can be made in two halves, the edges of which may be similarly secured.
