Abstract

A typical duct consits of an outer sleeve (1). A thermal and sound insulating medium (2) and a perforated inner sleeve (3). The combination of damping medium and the perforations dissipates the sound energy. Glass wool or known granular materials can be used for the medium and if necessary a barrier screen (4), of for example a woven textile, can be incorporated to prevent dispersion by the fluid. End fittings (6) are designed to retain the medium and form male and female (9) couplings for pipe sections. Electrical connections (5) prevent build up of static charges, whilst the pointed ends prevent thermal hot spots forming on the outer sleeve. T and other junctions can be designed and various methods of production are described.
