Abstract

671,933. Food containers. METAL BOX CO., Ltd., LYONS & CO., Ltd., J., and JACKSON, J. M. Sept. 12, 1949 [Feb. 14, 1949], No. 4020/49. Class 66 A food container comprises a sheet metal dish 1, e.g. of 0.01 inch aluminium, and a metal foil cover 4, e.g. of 0.004 inch aluminium, which retains its shape when secured to the dish but can be readily torn off by an unaided hand. The sides 2 of the dish may taper slightly and its mouth may be surrounded by an outwardly curled lip 3. The margin of the cover may have a groove 8, a curl 6 and a depending flange 5 which can be turned under the lip 3 to secure the cover. Reinforcing corrugations or beads 10 may extend down the sides and under the base of the dish. The cover may have non-symmetrically arranged embossments 11 which keep a series of covers apart when they are nested in alternate directions. Part of one edge of the cover may be extended a tear-off tab and the cover may have corresponding lines of weakness.
