Abstract

The bottle lid analogous to a crown cap may be made from a flat piece of tinplate. The edges of the lid are segmented by cutting equidistant notches round the edge. The segments are individually rolled over to give this portion of the lid rigidity and the edge of the lid is then folded to fit over the neck of the bottle. An integral part of the edge is formed into a tab. An extension is rivetted onto the tab and this extension is shaped as a ring. The bottle may be opened by tearing the cover off by means of the tab ring.
