Abstract

671,302. Slewing cranes. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.- GES. Dec. 2. 1949. [Aug. 12, 1949] No. 31039/49. Class 78 (iv). The upper part of a crane, including the cabin 2 and jib 3, is mounted by means of a bearing 5 for slewing motion about a pillar 4 which is fixed to a portal gantry 1 and which is hollow so that its interior 9 serves as a means of access to the upper part of the crane. Steps 10 lead from a quay on which the crane is mounted to steps inside the pillar 4 which is provided at its upper end with a vertical opening 8 communicating with the cabin. The slewing motion is provided by a driven gear 6 which engages a gear 7 fixed in the gantry 1. In an alternative construction the pillar 4 rotates with the cabin 2 ; a side opening similar to 8 communicates with the gantry while a central opening leads into the cabin.
