To enable an inductance coil, as for use in filters of power line carrier transmission systems, to withstand voltage surges, the winding 3 has one or both end sections 4 more heavily insulated than the greater part of the winding, and the cross-section of the former in the regions where sections 4 are disposed, are tapered. The winding former 1 may be of non-magnetic material such as synthetic resin or wood, or may constitute a magnetic dust core, and in the form shown comprises a ring, each semi-circular half of which carries a separate such toroidal winding.
