Abstract

671,050. Inertia switches. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and SNELL, M. S. June 2, 1950.. [June 7, 1949] No. 15181/49. Class 38 (v). A switch specially suitable for use as a crash switch on aircraft, comprises a spring- controlled element 12, 13 adapted to bend when a certain acceleration is exceeded so that it engages a fixed element 11 to which it is magnetically attracted. In the form shown the element 12 is a magnet mounted on a stem 13 of springy brass and surrounded by a soft iron cylinder 11. A transparent disc 24 is arranged above the magnet and an adjustable cap 30 with markings on it enables the direction of the crash to be indicated. The casing 11, contains a damping liquid.
