Abstract

An electric switch, which operates when subjected to a mechanical shock, is used in motor vehicles to prevent fire or electrical damage when the vehicle has had an accident. The switch has an annular permanent magnet (2) in a nonmagnetic case (3), a magnetic material ball (4) suspended by a flexible rod (5), and a microswitch (6) whose actuator (7) is normally in contact with the ball (4). For a shock greater than a preset level, the ball (4) moves and releases the actuator (7). The microswitch then operates a contactor which in turn isolates the circuit to be protected from the electric source.
