Abstract

670,511. Floating structures. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. April 25, 1949 [April 30, 1948], No. 10960/49. Class 113 (ii). Apparatus for handling a load at sea comprises a first buoyant body adapted to give buoyancy to 90 per cent of the load, the first body being entirely submerged in the water and at least one second body adapted to give buoyancy to the remaining portion of the load, the second body having a small horizontal crosssectional area and being in operation at least partly submerged in the water. Two horizontal cylinders 1 arranged to be wholly submerged are secured to vertical caissons 2 supporting a platform 9. The load 5 is supported by a cable 8 from a derrick 11, passing through a hawse pipe 4 below the cylinders 1. The cable may carry damping discs 6. Specification 568,612 is referred to.
