986,782. Marine structures. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. July 25, 1963 [July 27, 1962], No. 29569/63. Heading E1H. [Also in Division B7] A marine structure 11 used e.g. for drilling holes underwater, of the floating type or of the type which is supported by the floor beneath a body of water is anchored to prevent a substantial lateral movement thereof by an anchoring system comprising at least one float 28 disposed at a distance from structure 11, an anchor line 43 secured to the float and extending away from structure 11 to an anchor, an interconnecting line extending from float 28 at an angle downwardly to structure 11 to meet said structure below the water surface 27 and means 21 connected to the interconnecting line for applying a predetermined tension therein. The means 21 comprises a winch which exerts a tension on a pulley block system (Fig. 7 not shown) which forms part of the interconnecting line. A number of spaced floats may be distributed around the structure.
