Abstract

1,209,840. Mooring ships offshore. C. A. ERZEN. 11 Nov., 1968 [10 Nov., 1967], No. 53368/68. Heading B7S. [Also in Divisions E1-E2] A device for mooring (and may be unloading) ships off-shore, comprises a base 7 fixed to the sea bed supporting on a universal joint a mast 3 extending above the water-line 2 and maintained vertical by a float 9, the mast 3 having attached to it (e.g. by a horizontal pivot 10 or a series of sprung extensible struts, preferably underwater) a mooring boom 4 extending sideways and maintained substantially horizontal by further floats 15. The boom may comprise towers 5, 6 having fenders 17 shown retracted. The device may also include a pipeline 19 from the shore having an upright extension 18 passing through the mast, the extension being connected by a swivel joint 20 to a radial pipe 21 moved about the extension by posts 22 on the mast. The pipe 21 is shown connected via a flexible length 24 to a pipe 25 on the boom which forms the lower one 12 of three longitudinal members 11, 11, 12, and which ends in connectors 28. Each tower 5, 6 may have stabilizing weights 16 below the tanks 15.
