Abstract

System for loading a ship with a fluid from an off-shore platform, partic. an articulated platform, comprises (a) a rigid elongated arm or jib articulated at one end to the platform above the surface of the water in such a way as to permit motion at least around a horizontal axis, while having at its other end a mechanism for connection to a mooring block fixed to the ship. (b) a rigid pipe supported along its whole length on the jib, connected at one end to a pipe fixed to the platform and at the other end to a flexible pipe having a coupling device at its free end for connecting it to a second fixed pipe on the ship. Avoids the adverse effects of waves on the flexible pipe where the free end of this is supported on a float and is picked up by the tanker for loading purposes, and eliminates the need for a slave mooring construction for the ship.
