Abstract

1363785 Mooring ships TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 25 Nov 1972 54595/72 Heading B7S Mooring apparatus for mooring, e.g. a tanker 10 to a marine terminal 11, in which harmful abrasion of the mooring chain is reduced, comprises an anchor 16 which is fixed to the sea-bed and to which is attached a flexible element, e.g. chain 22. The other end of chain 22 is attached to a weight, e.g. concrete block 27 at the lower end of an elongated member 24 whose upper, buoyant end carries means, e.g. cleat 35 for attaching a mooring line 36. In normal use (Fig. 2) the member 24 rests on the sea-bed generally vertically, being able to be tilted aside by the moored vessel 10. Under conditions causing extremely high mooring tensions, however, the member 24 may be lifted off the sea-bed and be caused to lie in line with the chain 22 and mooring line 36. The marine terminal of Fig. 1 (not shown), in which fluid transfer lines 12 connect the tanker 10 to the fixed storage unit 11, employs several mooring apparatuses as described above.
