Abstract
3 - Methyl - 1 - (11 - hydroxy - 21 : 61 : 61 - tri-methylcyclohexyl) octa - 4 : 6 - dien - 1 - yn - 3 - ol having the formula <FORM:0670211/IV (b)/1> This compound is obtained by reacting a halogeno magnesium derivative of the formula <FORM:0670211/IV (b)/2> with crotonylidene acetone in the presence of an inert solvent and decomposing the resulting organo magnesium complex. The reaction may be effected in diethyl ether, di-n-butyl ether, dioxan or tetrahydrofuran in the temperature range -20 DEG to +60 DEG C. in the presence of an anti-oxidant and the complex decomposed with water or aqueous ammonium sulphate.
